A care routine / professional maintenance for your bridal jewelry
If you want your engagement ring or wedding band to still look beautiful in 10 or 20 years, here are a few advices to follow regarding the care routine or professional maintenance I would recommend you to do on a regular basis.
Longevity comes down to consistency. A simple care routine makes a significant difference over time.
At home, I recommend gently cleaning your ring every 2-3 months using warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush to remove dirt behind the stone and around the setting. Never clean directly the stone on the top part. This routine process keeps the stone brilliant and prevents residue from dulling its appearance.
I suggest:
• A quick check-up and cleaning at a jeweler every year or year and a half
• Prong inspection to ensure the stone remains secure every two years
• Polishing and re-rhodiate (especially for white gold) approximately every 2 years to 3 years, depending on wear and maintenance
Over 10–20 years, normal wear is expected — especially for daily-worn pieces like engagement rings and wedding bands — but routine maintenance can dramatically extend the life and beauty of the ring.
Think of it like servicing a car: small, regular check-ups preserve both appearance and structural integrity. With proper care, an engagement ring or wedding band can absolutely look just as beautiful decades later as it did on day one.
